Remember Everything Forever?

Is this a good idea? Is forgetting part of what keeps us grounded, from wallowing in shame, grief, fear, or even an overabundance of happiness (let me know if this is you, I want advice ;-) Technology assisting our minds is not new, but some of it - like all technologies have the potential to do - make things worse.

There's a very interesting take on this in the book Stumbling Toward Happiness. Basically it says memory os not recall, its our brains telling us a story.

Kelly: On abuse: if the victim has one of these recorders, prosecution/justice might be aided. And then the rememberer will have the option of selecting and deleting her external memory.

Our unique perspectives come not only from selective memory, but from a unique set of experiences and a unique attitude toward those them.

Dean: your comment reminds me of Rashomon (which I haven't yet seen): people having the same set of data will still construct different stories based on it.

I agree with Scott that it's about choosing what influences us, and this technology seems to give us more choices.
